The Timber varieties are the most impressive bamboos that we can grow here.  However, they do require some room to grow.  They do not do well in containers and can be quite invasive.

"VIVAX" f. Aureocaulis
Invasive Bamboo       40' Tall      Full Sun to Part Shade     -5 Degrees
Vivax is a beautiful large caned variety that does well here in Idaho.  The leaves will brown in a harsh winter, but it re-leafs in the Spring.  It takes a little longer to establish, but once it does, it adds a very dramatic look to any landscape.

RUBROMARGINATA
Invasive Bamboo       35' Tall       Full Sun to Part Shade     -5 Degrees
Rubro does not spread as fast as some of the other varieties.  It stays in a tighter clump, but does have running rhizomes.  It is an nice straight bamboo with thick walls that makes the poles very suitable for use in construction.
